PRINTMAKING TECHNIQUES
 
Below are some examples of the different printmaking methods that Marion uses to complete her work
 
Photec Etching
is a light sensitive coating which is applied to a zinc plate. This is then exposed to uv light in conjunction with a hand drawn positive image. The plate is then developed and left to harden. This creates an image which is etched into the photec plate - ready for printing.
Monoprints
are created by working directly on to a smooth nonabsorbent surface with oil-based inks. Layers are built up using different tools and textures. When ready to print, dampened paper is then placed on top of the plate and then run through the press. Each monoprint is therefore unique.
   
Drypoint Etching
is an intaglio method in which a sharp needle or diamond point is used to scratch on to a zinc or copper plate creating a burr which holds the ink and gives a very rich velvety line. The plate wears out rapidly as the burr is flattened during printing.
